Termite Control Cost

How Much Does Termite Control Cost?

Termite control is an essential service as they cause billions of dollars in damage to homes in the United States every year. They are very destructive, and if you have wood in your home you are at risk. Termites are known as the silent destroyer, and they can literally eat your home and cause a devastating financial loss. It is best to take precautions against termites, but if you already have them you need to get rid of them before it's too late.

How Much Does It Cost To Control Termites?

Generally, there are 2 types of termites which plague homes around America, namely:

  • subterranean
  • wood-inhabiting

Subterranean termites usually form their mounds in soil where they build elaborate tunnel systems and mud tunnels through which they access above-ground food sources. Drywood termites live within the wood they consume and often times infest walls and furniture.

On the low end, you can expect to pay around $100 for termite control, but this will depend on the severity of the infestation. The average price, however, comes in at about $600, but in extreme cases, the bill has come in double that at around $1,200. In comparison to the amount of financial damage they do, this is a small price to pay.

Different companies will use several different methods to address the issue and control termites in and around your home. These include the following:

  •  bait stations
  •  liquid treatment
  •  combination treatments

Termite control is a specialized function which should be taken care of by a knowledgeable professional. If you suspect you might have a termite problem, do not hesitate to get in touch with experts in your area before you lose thousands of dollars!

Bait Stations

Many companies will come out and do a free inspection to see if your home is at risk. If they find subterranean termites, they will place bait stations in the yard around your home. Treated wood will then be placed in the bait stations to monitor them throughout the year. The treated wood acts like bait and the worker termites bring these back to their colonies, which eventually kills them. This method of termite control is on the low end of the price range because it only involves placing stations and monitoring them.

Liquid Treatment

If the inspection results in a severely active colony that has either already reached your home or set to do so in a short matter of time, then they will opt to use a liquid insecticide around the home. This is a more intensive type of treatment.

Combination of Treatments

Additionally, some companies will encourage you to do both treatments for the best defence against termites in your area. Even if they do not recommend it, it is encouraged that you ask for both if you have the need to control termites in your area. Even with both of these treatments, the cost to control termites will not reach the high end of the spectrum.

When termites are left to fester, homeowners will end up footing the bill from extensive termite damage. You may be asked to remove infected wood and have it replaced with treated wood. The rule of thumb is that if you already have termites, it will cost you more to get rid of them and then control them. If you have not had any yet, then simply controlling them is much cheaper.
